Starting in July and finishing by the end of September, Prague Airport has recorded a 6% increase in the number of checked-in operations. In absolute terms, this means that 5,812,597 passengers had passed through Prague Airport this summer. The busiest month was August, while the number of passengers has increased the most in September. Traditionally the most sought-after destination was London. Antalya came first among holiday destinations.

While the number of checked-in passengers increased on a year-on-year basis, the airport experienced the opposite trend in the case of air movements. In the third quarter of this year, the number of air movements dropped by 1.0% year-on-year. The biggest decline occurred in August.

“The number of passengers handled in the third quarter corresponds to our forecasts from the beginning of the summer season. In the case of the year-on-year increase in passengers, we are even slightly above the upper limit of the forecasts from the beginning of this year, which will undoubtedly positively impact the overall operating results for the whole of 2019 for Prague´s airport.

Interest in Long-Haul Destinations Is Growing

“Newly opened flights, an increasing amount of flights to existing destinations and a constant capacity increase of existing flights contribute to the airport’s consistently excellent operating results,” adds Václav Řehoř.

Passengers’ interest in flights to long-haul destinations has increased. In the third quarter, 464,969 passengers used these routes, which is 12% more than in the same period last year. Out of the 15 destinations, the largest year-on-year increase in flights was to North America, by 28.7%.
