Air Canada has started a new long-distance flight service between Prague and Toronto, set to run until the end of September this year. The first flight was celebrated today at Václav Havel Airport in Prague, with Canadian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Emily McLaughlin, in attendance.
“The last regular flight from our airport to Toronto was before COVID-19 struck in 2019. We are excited to see this long-distance route return in partnership with Air Canada. We also thank the airline for using larger planes than initially planned. We anticipate this route will accommodate around 25,000 travelers in both directions this year,” stated Jiří Pos, the Chairman of the Board at Prague Airport.
The long-distance service linking Toronto and Prague will run from June 6 through the end of September 2025. From July to August, Air Canada will use the Airbus A330-300, which can carry 297 passengers. In September, they will switch to the Boeing 787-9, which holds 298 seats, according to current flight plans. Originally, the route was expected to utilize the smaller Boeing 787-8, with a capacity of 255 seats. The service will have three flights each week, departing every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from Prague.
“After more than five years away, we are excited to return to the beautiful city of Prague, providing the only direct flight between the Czech Republic and Canada. With 8.5 million people living within a 120-minute drive from Prague Airport, we believe this new route will be appealing to those wanting to travel to Canada, as well as to destinations in the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean. We also hope this new service will enhance tourism on both sides of the Atlantic, strengthen economic relations between our countries, and create new business opportunities,” said Nedime Canipek-Konuksever, Air Canada’s General Manager for Eastern Europe and Turkey.
