Prague Airport is releasing a Declaration that outlines its long-term strategy regarding air traffic and its effects on the nearby area. The document also details the future direction of this strategy. Additionally, it emphasizes the airport’s essential role in offering dependable infrastructure for both Czech and international travelers, while promoting Prague and the entire Czech Republic as a desirable travel destination. This document specifically highlights the measures and principles that shape the operations of Václav Havel Prague Airport.
The timing of this Declaration aligns with the closure of the main runway, which results in changes to traffic management. Prague Airport sees this as a perfect opportunity to openly explain its traffic management approach and how it affects local residents.
“The main runway’s closure is a time when more attention is naturally paid to how traffic is managed. Therefore, we believe it’s essential to clearly summarize our approach to these situations and the long-term measures we put in place,” stated Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport.
The Declaration is built on specific actions that the airport has been taking for several years. These actions include regulating night traffic, using noise charges to encourage airlines to operate quieter planes, continuously monitoring noise and air quality, and implementing extensive noise reduction measures in the surrounding areas. It also supports activities in the nearby municipalities and city districts.
This document outlines the next steps for different phases of the airport’s operations, including future traffic management once the parallel runway becomes permanently operational.
“The introduction of the parallel runway will significantly change how operations are organized. It will enable regular nighttime closures of the airport while ceasing operations on the secondary runway, which currently passes over highly populated areas. This is a crucial step toward minimizing the impact of traffic on the surrounding neighborhoods,” explained Jiří Kraus, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Prague Airport also assures that it fully adheres to all conditions outlined in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process as well as other requirements set by public administration authorities.
Overall, the Declaration serves as a foundation for transparent communication with the public, local governments, and state administration, ensuring that the operations of Václav Havel Prague Airport are conducted with the utmost respect for its surroundings. You can find the Declaration on the airport’s website at www.prg.earo in the “For Our Neighbours” section.
