Travelling from Prague’s Václav Havel Airport (Ruzyne) has become easier thanks to new technologies, but keeping a few simple tips in mind can still make your departure smoother.
New Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to the UK
Starting this year, EU citizens—including Czechs—travelling to the UK must obtain an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), similar to the one required for the US. Remember, electronic ID documents are not accepted for travel control; always bring your physical passport or ID card.
Arrival Time at the Airport
It’s recommended to arrive early:
- 2.5 hours before departure for flights within the EU.
- 3 hours for flights outside the EU or long-haul flights involving passport control.
Gate closing times can vary by airline, often between 15 to 30 minutes before departure. Check your airline’s policy in advance to avoid stress.
Security Checks with New CT Scanners
The airport has installed six new CT scanners at Terminal 2’s central security area. With this advanced technology:
- You no longer need to remove electronics or liquids from your hand luggage.
- Liquids still must be in containers of max 100 ml, placed in one transparent, resealable plastic bag (max 1 litre capacity).
- If you forget your plastic bag, the airport provides them at security checkpoints.
Tips for Carrying Electronics
- Large battery devices (e.g., laptops, tablets, power banks) must be in hand luggage.
- Small battery devices (e.g., electric toothbrushes, shavers) can go in either hand luggage or checked baggage. Ensure these devices can’t accidentally turn on.
Self-Service Check-in for Convenience
To avoid queues:
- Use one of the 31 self-service kiosks available at Terminals 1 and 2 to print your boarding pass.
- You can also use 20 self-service counters for baggage check-in supported by 12 airlines. Self-service check-in use is increasing rapidly, streamlining the overall travel process.
Avoiding Congestion and Delays
Due to increasing air traffic, especially during summer:
- Check-in early using online or kiosk services.
- Stay informed about flight delays. Southern European destinations like Croatia may experience significant congestion this year.
Improved Airport Amenities
- Relaxation Zones: Comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, and charging stations available, with Terminal 2’s zone accommodating up to 100 visitors.
- Family Facilities: Dedicated rooms with play areas, changing tables, and kitchenettes for families travelling with children.
- Dining and Shopping: 13 establishments open 24 hours during summer, including the Runway Restaurant with views of aircraft and new shopping outlets like Sunglass Hut and Kamalion mobile accessories.
Record Passenger Numbers Expected
