Road undergoing reconstruction by Terminal 1. What traffic restrictions shall be expected?"Terminal 1 Road Renovations: What You Need to Know About Upcoming Traffic Restrictions!"

Travelling from Václav Havel Airport in Prague is set to become more convenient. As of October 1, 2025, thanks to new CT X-ray machines that were introduced in Terminal 2 last May and passed recertification at the end of August, passengers will face relaxed rules regarding the transport of liquids on flights. From now on, those departing from Terminal 2 will be allowed to bring one container of liquid that exceeds 100 millilitres, with a maximum total volume of 2 litres per person, in addition to a standard one-litre bag containing liquids of up to 100 millilitres.

“Recent customer feedback indicates that passenger satisfaction has improved during the summer since we installed CT X-rays in Terminal 2. This change has eliminated the requirement to take electronics and liquids out of hand luggage during security checks, simplifying the process. The allowance for larger amounts of liquids is a notable advancement,” explained Martin Kučera, a member of the Prague Airport Board responsible for operations and security.

What new rules will apply?

As of October 1, 2025, the regulations will vary depending on the terminal from which passengers are flying.

  • Terminal 1 (flights outside the Schengen Area):
The rules will stay the same; passengers can only carry liquids in containers of up to 100 ml, which must fit into a transparent bag that holds a maximum of 1 litre. Liquids over 100 ml are not permitted.
  • Terminal 2 (flights within the Schengen Area):
Passengers can now bring an extra container of liquids over 100 ml, up to a maximum of 2 litres per person (including items like cosmetics, food, and both soft and alcoholic drinks). Additionally, liquids up to 100 ml must be placed in a transparent bag that can hold 1 litre. Importantly, at security checks with CT X-rays, there’s no need to remove electronics and liquids from hand baggage.

This year, Prague Airport acquired six CT X-ray machines for Terminal 2 and intends to purchase two more in the following year. While larger amounts of liquids are permissible at other screening points in Terminal 2 equipped with traditional X-ray machines, passengers will still need to take electronics and liquids out of their hand baggage. Information signs and security staff will always remind passengers of this requirement.

Why are the rules different for each terminal?

The changes to the liquid limits are made possible by the new CT X-ray machines, which enhance security and streamline the screening process. Currently, Terminal 1 does not have this advanced technology. As part of the planned upgrades for Václav Havel Airport, a central security screening area similar to that in Terminal 2 will be constructed in Terminal 1. Further modernization of Terminal 2 is also in the works, as the existing length of screening areas limits the volume of liquids that can be processed without risking system overload.

“We aim to evaluate our operations over the long term and, depending on positive outcomes, gradually increase the permitted liquid volumes. Even this partial change already represents a significant improvement for passengers. The planned renovations at the airport are crucial, especially to enhance passenger comfort, allowing them to experience modern facilities equipped with the latest technology,” added Martin Kučera.

Passenger Reminder

Prague Airport advises travelers to note that liquid transport regulations can differ from one airport to another, based on the availability of modern X-ray technologies and layout configurations. Therefore, it’s wise to check the liquid transport rules applicable at the airport from which passengers are returning to Prague ahead of their travels.

There are still some exceptions to the rules:

  • baby food
  • special dietary requirements
  • liquids needed for medical reasons

Checked luggage is still subject to the same regulations. Prague Airport emphasizes the following items:

  • Power banks, laptops, and electronic cigarettes should be kept in hand luggage.
  • Small electronic devices (like toothbrushes and razors) can be included in checked bags, but they must be secured to prevent accidental activation, which could lead to extra inspections and delays.
  • Items that are not allowed: flammables, volatile substances, weapons, explosives, etc., cannot be packed in any luggage.
