The Growth of Travel Interest from Faraway Places
In the third quarter of this year, a total of 7.9 million tourists visited the Czech Republic, a rise of 2.2% compared to the previous year. Local tourists comprised 58.2% of all arrivals, while international visitors made up 41.8%. Visits from domestic tourists remained constant, but international tourist visits increased by 3.4%. In this quarter, the highest number of foreign visitors came from Germany (660 thousand), followed by Poland (340 thousand) and Slovakia (288 thousand). There has also been a notable increase in interest from tourists in Great Britain and Austria. Prague continues to be the top destination, drawing over 2.2 million visitors, while the South Moravian (848 thousand visitors) and South Bohemian regions (792 thousand visitors) also experience significant visitor numbers. The Karlovy Vary region reported the longest average stay of 4.8 days due to its spa facilities, whereas visits to Prague (3.4 days) and the South Moravian Region (3.2 days) tend to be shorter.
“The Czech Republic is an attractive destination for tourists all year round across all regions. While traditional markets in neighbouring countries remain strong, popularity is also increasing rapidly in more distant areas, including the Arabian Peninsula, Brazil, and Japan. Some markets have even surpassed pre-pandemic levels from 2019. For example, arrivals from Turkey have increased by more than 100%, from Saudi Arabia by almost 45%, and from Poland by nearly 43%. It’s very encouraging that visitor numbers are rising year after year throughout the entire Czech Republic,” stated František Reismüller, Director of the Czech Tourism Board – CzechTourism. He also added: “From January to September 2025, 18.3 million tourists visited the Czech Republic, spending a total of 46.7 million nights here, with the average length of stay being 3.55 days. The rising interest from distant markets, the return of Asian tourists, and stable domestic demand lay a strong foundation for the continued growth of tourism in the country.”
Hotels Are the Top Choice for Accommodation
Between July and September 2025, a total of 7.9 million guests checked into hotels, guesthouses, and other large accommodation facilities in the country, spending 21.2 million nights in these places—this marks a 1% increase compared to the previous year. Hotels remained the most popular type of accommodation, hosting 4.8 million guests, which is 60% of all visitors. Their performance improved by 4.1% year-on-year, with domestic guest numbers increasing by 3.1% and foreign guests by 2.7%. Altogether, 2.7 million hotel guests came from overseas. “We live in a highly interconnected world where information can be shared globally in just seconds. This has an impact on the hotel market. People have shifted away from traveling solely for historical sites; they now prefer events, efficient transportation, a thriving economy, and innovative accommodation options,” explained Jaroslav Svoboda, owner of Czech Inn Hotels, the largest hotel group in the Czech Republic, which catered to over 2 million guests in 2024. He added: “If the economy is strong and we continue to support tourism, there is a great potential for even higher visitor numbers in the Czech Republic.”
